Dr Dasha Roa

Dr Roa is a consultant allergist at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Her journey in allergology began in Madrid, Spain, where she completed her specialist training at Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón, one of Spain’s leading allergy centres. She has worked as a consultant allergist since 2017, including previous consultant roles at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust.

Her expertise includes the diagnosis and management of respiratory and skin allergies, including allergic rhinitis hay fever, asthma, eczema, urticaria, angioedema, anaphylaxis, systemic and cutaneous mastocytosis, hereditary alpha-tryptasaemia, mast cell activation disorders, and recurrent unexplained anaphylaxis. She provides comprehensive assessment, diagnostic testing, and personalised treatment plans to help patients achieve optimal control of their symptoms and improve their quality of life.

She has extensive experience in the use of allergen immunotherapy and advanced treatments for allergic conditions, including biologic therapies and immunosuppressive medications where appropriate.

She has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of food allergy in both adults and adolescents. Her practice includes oral food challenges and oral immunotherapy desensitisation for peanut, tree nuts, cow’s milk, egg, wheat, sesame, and lipid transfer protein LTP allergy. She also supports patients with pollen food allergy syndrome oral allergy syndrome, helping them safely reintroduce foods where appropriate. In addition, she provides comprehensive assessment and long-term management plans for patients at risk of anaphylaxis, including adrenaline auto-injector training and strategies to reduce the risk of future reactions.

She specialises in the investigation and management of drug allergy, including both immediate and delayed hypersensitivity reactions. Her expertise includes skin testing, patch testing, oral and intravenous drug challenges, penicillin allergy delabelling, and drug desensitisation. She regularly manages patients with allergies to antibiotics, tuberculosis medications, quinolones, opioids, insulin, chemotherapy agents, aspirin, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs NSAIDs. She also has significant experience in assessing perioperative anaphylaxis and allergic reactions occurring during anaesthesia and surgery.

She undertakes occupational allergy assessments and fitness-for-work evaluations for individuals applying for or working in safety-critical professions, including the Armed Forces and aviation sector. Through detailed allergy assessment, diagnostic testing, oral food challenges where appropriate, and risk stratification, she helps patients, employers, and occupational health teams make informed decisions regarding allergy diagnoses, anaphylaxis risk, and fitness for duty. She also offers allergen immunotherapy for pollen, house dust mite, and other environmental allergens using both sublingual and subcutaneous treatment approaches.
