What should I bring to hospital?

Whether you're staying with us overnight or attending as a day patient, planning ahead can help make your visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

The checklist below includes the key information and items to bring with you. If you forget anything, please don't worry. We can provide many essential items during your stay.

Essential information and documents

Please bring:

  • Your admission letter or appointment confirmation

  • Your current address and telephone number

  • The name, address and telephone number of your GP

  • Details of your next of kin or emergency contact

  • Any medication you are currently taking, including inhalers and non-prescription medicines. If you are attending as a day patient, a list of your medications is also helpful.

  • Payment for any prescriptions you may need during or after your visit

  • If applicable, your private medical insurance details and pre-authorisation code

What should I pack for an overnight hospital stay?

If you are staying with us overnight, you may wish to bring:

  • Toiletries, including a toothbrush, toothpaste and soap

  • Tissues

  • A hairbrush or comb

  • Nightwear and comfortable clothing

  • Any glasses, hearing aids or dentures you use

  • A manual or cordless razor and shaving foam, if required

What can I bring to help pass the time?

You may find it helpful to bring:

  • Books, magazines or other reading materials

  • A notebook or writing materials

  • A mobile phone, tablet or personal music device

  • Contact details for family members, friends or carers

What should I not bring to hospital?

To help keep your belongings safe, please avoid bringing:

  • Valuables, including expensive jewellery

  • Large sums of cash

  • Large personal items, as storage space is limited to a small bedside cupboard
