Dr Maddalena Miele

Dr Maddalena Miele qualified in Italy and moved to the UK in 1992. She trained initially in obstetrics and gynaecology before completing a PhD in neuroscience at the University of Oxford and undertaking several years of research in neuroscience and neuropharmacology. She subsequently trained in psychiatry, developing a specialist interest in perinatal and infant mental health.

She established and led the Perinatal Mental Health Service at St Mary’s Hospital, London, until her retirement from the NHS in 2023. She has contributed to the development of perinatal mental health services nationally through her work with NHS England and as Clinical Lead for Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. She has also provided specialist perinatal mental health care in the private sector since 2012.

Dr Miele is an experienced clinician, educator and researcher, with a particular interest in the relationship between maternal mental health and infant emotional development. She remains active in the field through clinical practice, teaching, mentoring and supervision, and is co-founder of Perinatal Psychiatry Masterclasses Ltd, dedicated to professional development in perinatal psychiatry.
