Dr Patrizia Viola
Background
Dr Patrizia Viola graduated from high school in the USA in 2000 and in Italy in 2001, where she focused on scientific subjects. She was enrolled in medical school in Italy from October 2001 to October 2007, when she graduated with the highest grade and honour. During the last two years of medical school, she completed a Doctor of Medicine on the relationship between cervical cancer and HPV-induced lesions. In February 2008 she became a member of the Italian equivalent of the General Medical Council (GMC). In 2021 she was awarded an MSc from Queen Mary University in molecular pathology.
From June 2009 to July 2014 Dr Viola undertook a pathology training programme as specialist register in histo/cytopathology. In July 2012 she registered with the GMC and spent two months as visiting fellow at University College London Hospital. From February 2014 to January 2016, she worked as a clinical fellow at Royal Brompton Hospital. She has been on the GMC specialist register since August 2014. From February 2016 to November 2016 Dr Viola worked as a consultant histo/cytopathologist at Whittington Health, where she was specialty lead for lung and gynaecology pathology. She joined Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in November 2016 as consultant histopathologist and cytopathologist. She was granted an association with the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London as Honorary Senior Lecturer for the Division of Cancer, Department of Surgery and Cancer. Since November 2023 she is the genomic lead for the pathology service.
