Professor Vickie Lee
Background
Professor Vickie Lee is professor of practice (ophthalmology) at Imperial College London and specialises in the treatment of all orbital, lacrimal and eyelid conditions.
She is a leading specialist in orbital trauma and thyroid eye disease. She is the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society's national lead for thyroid eye disease (TED), authored the national guidelines for TED, and led the compilation of a national directory for thyroid eye services. She leads multidisciplinary TED services across three NHS hospitals that are internationally recognised.
Professor Lee is also the UK chief investigator and principal investigator for many clinical trials of novel treatments for thyroid eye disease. She has lectured and published extensively on TED and orbital trauma in major peer-reviewed journals. She has represented her specialty on committees at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and other national and international societies and on NICE panels.
She maintains an extensive network of leading specialists from other medical and surgical disciplines to ensure her patients can access the best multidisciplinary care possible.
Professor Lee is part of a small group of lacrimal specialists highly experienced in performing endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy for tear duct obstruction.
Alongside her clinical work, Professor Lee is dedicated to education, both for medical students at Imperial College London and for the next generation of ophthalmologists. In addition to her professorship, she is a clinical teacher for the medical school. She and her colleagues also run a successful oculoplastic fellowship programme for the next generation of oculoplastic surgeons.
She has been invited to convene, chair and lecture at many national and international conferences on a variety of topics including thyroid eye disease, orbital and facial trauma, and cosmetic rejuvenation, and has published in textbooks and many leading peer-reviewed journals.
