Georgia shares her empowering birth experience at the Lindo Wing
When Georgia, founder of Mother.FM, began planning for the birth of her first child, creating an experience that balanced exceptional clinical care with a sense of autonomy and calm was essential. Here, Georgia shares her story in her own words.
Choosing the Lindo Wing
I wanted to have autonomy over my birth and care. I saw ‘birth’ as both the start of motherhood for me and the literal introduction to the world for my son. It felt essential that this introduction was one where we both had that guaranteed exceptional care.
I specifically chose the Lindo Wing because of its connection to St Mary’s Hospital. In the event of needing something like a blood transfusion, I felt reassured knowing those facilities were close by. I also knew the Lindo Wing offered certain additional services, like the option for nurses to look after your baby through the night if you wanted guaranteed sleep. I left the Lindo Wing feeling strong and relatively rested, which was the best foundation for my recovery and for being the best mum I could be.
Support throughout pregnancy
My pregnancy was generally fine, but I was quite anxious because I really wanted everything to be okay and sometimes you just have to trust that it is. I had to learn to surrender to that.
I also had an anterior placenta, which made it harder to find a consistent rhythm with my baby’s movements. There were moments where I wasn’t sure what was ‘normal’ for me. Being able to pop into the Lindo Wing and be monitored whenever I needed was incredibly reassuring.
Navigating pregnancy
I would say take each day as it comes. Know that your body knows what to do and build that self‑trust - it’s something I struggled with at times. The way we live now, we rarely have to wait or surrender, and pregnancy really invites that. Also, listen to what your body needs. It’s all very personal and specific to your own pregnancy. If something doesn’t feel normal for you, get a medical opinion.
The incredible team behind my care
Dr Alex Digesu was wonderful and exactly the kind of obstetrician I needed – we actually had a laugh together. My anaesthetist was amazing too; really kind and offered the best conversation during my C‑section. And, of course midwife Debbie, who was there for the birth and those first moments after, and senior midwife Gabriella Ray, who supported me in the days that followed.
Choosing the Lindo Wing was, without a doubt, the best decision I could have made for my birth experience.
