Midwife-led care at the Lindo Wing

Delivering care centred around you and your family

Midwife-led care places you at the heart of your pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey, offering a holistic and personalised experience.

The Lindo Wing midwife-led maternity package is for parents-to-be who want to form a close relationship with their dedicated midwife team that will be with them throughout their pregnancy and the birth of their baby.

We will support you through every stage of pregnancy, labour, birth and postnatal care, focusing on the health and wellbeing of you and your baby, putting you at ease, and ensuring the highest standards of care in a safe and comfortable environment.

Our midwife-led package includes:

  • regular appointments with your dedicated private midwife team throughout your pregnancy

  • routine blood tests

  • ongoing individual labour and birth discussions throughout your pregnancy, including in-depth conversations around your birth preferences

  • a 24-hour call service, where expert midwives will respond to queries

  • your own dedicated team of midwives with you every step of the way throughout your labour and birth, offering you their expertise, encouragement and support

  • guidance on how to best care for your new baby

Is midwife-led care right for me?

Midwife-led care is only suitable for those who are expecting an uncomplicated birth (this includes both NHS eligible patients and overseas patients) and who's birthing preference is a vaginal birth.

A good guide to whether midwife-led care may be right for you is if you meet all of the following criteria:

  • expecting a single baby

  • aged between 18 and 39 years old, please note, if you are over 39 years old you may still be eligible for midwife-led care

  • body mass index (BMI) of between 18 and 30

  • currently having an uncomplicated pregnancy

  • have not previously had a caesarean section

If any of these conditions change during your pregnancy, we will support a smooth transition to obstetric-led care with one of our consultants. Additional fees will apply for this.

Please ask your midwife for more information about the package, and whether it could be a suitable option for your birth plan, during your admission.

You can have complete peace of mind regarding the safety of you and your baby whilst in our care.

We have an experienced consultant obstetric team and 24-hour consultant anaesthetic cover on hand for us to call on at any time during pregnancy labour, birth or the postnatal period if any complications arise that need additional input.

If you choose our midwife-led care package, you are linked with a consultant obstetrician who you will meet during your pregnancy to refer to should any concerns arise. A consultant obstetrician will also be available during labour and birth in case of emergency, providing you with complete assurance of safety and clinical expertise.

If required at any point, we have world-class neonatal services at St Mary’s hospital with back up support services should you or your baby need any additional attention.

We involve birth partners at all stages of care, and they are particularly encouraged to attend appointments and antenatal classes if you choose to opt for them. They are also welcome to stay overnight after the birth.

We believe it’s important that older children don’t feel left out as you prepare for the new arrival. Our team can advise you on maintaining relationships with both your baby and your other children. This includes involving older siblings in the planning of the baby’s arrival.

We aim to provide an exceptional standard of service where your wellbeing, safety, security and comfort are always our top priority.

For the duration of your stay our expert team will ensure your birth and recovery is safe, personalised and discreet.
